Thimble Cactus, Mammillaria gracilis var. fragilis

Here are pictures of my little guy blooming.

Its not the best looking flower but its still cute on this little thing.

Info on Mammillaria gracilis var. fragilis:
Mammillaria fragilis, or Thimble Cactus, is a clump-forming cactus native to Central Mexico. The clumps can exceed 12 inches (30 cm) in width in containers. Stems are up to 1 inch thick and are easily disarticulated. Tubercles are in 5-8 spirals with 12-16 white, radial spines, which are needle shaped and up to 5 mm long. The central spine are brown at the tips, pointed outward and very stout. This cactus is an easy one to grow and very showy in containers.
Blooming: In the greenhouse, our specimen blooms from late summer into fall, with very small pale yellow flowers about 1/2 inch (1.2 cm) long.
Culture: Mammillaria fragilis need full sun to light shade, with a well-drained soil mix. In the greenhouse, we use a soil mix consisting of 2 parts coarse sand to 1 part peat moss to 1 part loam with small gravel added to increase drainage. The cactus is well watered and allowed to dry thoroughly before watering again. We fertilize the plants only once during the growing season (usually in mid spring) with a balanced fertilizer diluted to 1/2 the strength recommended on the label. During the winter months, water is somewhat restricted. We never let the winter temperatures fall below 55°F (13°C) at night.
Propagation: Mammillaria fragilis is easily propagated by division of older clumps, from disarticulated pieces, and from seed.

Desert vivarium update

As u can see I changed the way the tank looks. I will list the type of plants are in it.
Right now I keep the tank around 80degrees and humidity levels lower than 50percent. I can see a change in the humidity when the scorpion digs but that's only for a short period until it goes back to normal.

Dwayne the Scorpion!

So I am VERY Intrigued by Dwayne, this creature is amazing!!

I've been watching him for hours trying to catch a cricket.. crossing fingers, hoping he will catch one! BTW, Thepictures are red because of his Night Heat lamp... hopefully I will get a blacklight very soon and capture some really cool pictures of him under it.


Origin of his name:

Dwayne comes from the actor formerly known as "The Rock" when his was Scorpion King.. So I started to call him Dwayne, as in Dwayne Johnson!! lol I know stupid huh?

The Start of My Desert Terrarium

First I purchased a Fish tank setup.

Then changed the top to a open air mesh type cover so that moisture can leave the tank.

Right now I am testing plants in it which I like to call salvage succulents.

And of course I have my little buddy "Dwayne" the Black Hairy Scorpion.

The substrate: I am using at the very bottom of the tank, gravel for drainage, then I placed a thick layer of Cactus mix, fresh so that it wouldn't be contaminated. After that, I placed a nice thick layer of Sand in the front part of the tank for the scorpion to dig.

Desert Terrarium

My next project is to make a fish tank into a Desert Terrarium.

Since I have alot sprouting propagated succulents and cacti, I want to exhibit them somewhere in a more controled environment.

So plan on making the tank mainly for my plants then maybe add some little creatures depending on research.

I will give more information later on once everything is placed together.

Frustration

Frustrated with things…

 

here are things I would like to ask that concerns my frustration:

 

- What will it take for me to grow in the company?

- Are there any plans to move me or place me under a different department?

- Will I have a consistant supervisor?

- Ive been expressing my frustration on certain topics, but no action or feedback.

So I did get up this morning. Now I am in the parking lot of my dentist for my teeth cleaning. I hope that I don't get in trouble at work for going to the doctor. I did give multiple people notice that I have this morning cleaning. Anyways just killing time before the door opens.
